Where to go for Easter brunch in southern Wisconsin

Yeah, I know. Easter is over. So think of this article as a review and a reminder to mark your calendar for next year.

Christians celebrate Easter because it marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ and freedom from sin and death. But others celebrate the Easter bunny, the baskets, the egg decorating or the hunt for eggs filled with treats.

I'll also note Easter always falls on Sunday, which in my book is the sacred day for brunch with loved ones.

I did not see my family this year for the first time in my life on Easter. That was weird. Instead, I devoted the weekend to doing yardwork among God's flora and fauna. I also made time for the traditional brunch.

P.S. I need to take food photography classes. Please recommend!

Driftless Glen Distillery gave me an anything but traditional brunch. We're talking vodka cured salmon with a dill mustard sauce, oysters on the half shell with a lemon wedge and bourbon-syruped cinnamon rolls. Don't let me forget: crab legs, Eggs Benedict, prime rib with aju and brisket with cucumber horseradish.

Of course, the buffet line was kid-friendly as well with pearl (sugar-crusted) waffles, creamy cheesy potatoes, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon and biscuits with gravy.

A table topped with carrot cake, tiramisu, cheesecake and strawberry shortcake reminded you to save at least a bite in your belly for dessert.

What's more? A light, refreshing mimosa and a spicy bloody mary.

While the food sounds (and was) phenomenal, it's nothing without good service.

I could not flaw the service - so polite, friendly, accommodating and CLEAN. In a pandemic, the attention to cleanliness is obviously important. And again, it was a buffet. For germaphobes, a communal egg scooper and sausage tongs cause the eebie jeebies in a normal year let alone COVID-era. So well done staff! You rock at keeping everything shiny (even when young kids are eating, too).

And last, but definitely not least, the view! We were seated against their window wall overlooking the Baraboo River and the historic Circus World buildings.

In conclusion, I can’t wait to come sample Driftless Glen’s bourbon later this year and enjoy their restaurant for a non-holiday excursion.
