I'm Stephanie Hoff, and this is my portfolio.

interested in my story?

I'm Stephanie Hoff -- a communicator, learner and Wisconsin lover. This website is my portfolio. Please note that I have broken up with the Oxford comma.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in December 2019 with a degree in life sciences communication. I found LSC through my passion for agricultural and science communication and education. I find that science communication -- taking complicated information and "translating" it so that the material is understandable -- is applicable to other areas, from business to politics.

I am from small towns around Thorp, Wisconsin. I have a background in farming -- raising pigs, beef and goats -- and that has influenced my passion for communications. My involvement in FFA helped me realize that there is a lot of misinformation about food and farming. When I moved to Madison, I was introduced to the urban-rural divide. It's caused by a difference in values and needs between urban and rural people. This divide impacts political ideologies and therefore influences both sides' views on science such as GMOs or climate change. I fell in love with what good communication can do for public perception.

I also have certificates in entrepreneurship and folklore. I developed interests in entrepreneurship because I wanted to utilize my work ethic and drive in working with or in the business community. I developed a passion for folklore because I enjoy cultural studies, ethnographic research and asking good questions.

My mix of interests and experiences make me an open-minded and well-rounded individual.

In my spare time, I am always exploring Wisconsin.

I love everything about our state from fine dining to dive bars, from hiking our state parks to water skiing or kayaking the state's 15,000 lakes, from the humid summer to the frigid winter. In my blog, I share my adventures in finding paradise close to home.

I venture out of state as well to destinations such as the Driftless Region of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa or even overseas to Copenhagen, Denmark.
